NEW FORM AND PACKAGING FOR IMUNOVIR® TABLETS JULY 2006
Newport Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Swords, Co Dublin has advised that the Imunovir 500mg tablet form has changed in description. The tablet size has been reduced and it is now an easy-to-swallow capsule shape. It is presented as a plain white oblong tablet with a scoreline and marked with DN on one face. The amount of active remains the same.
The packaging has also been improved. The Imunovir 100 tablet glass bottle has been replaced by a 100 tablet blister pack. Each pack contains 5 tamper evident blister strips of 20 tablets. This new packaging will improve portability. New Braille labelling will also assist patients with visual impairment.
The generic name for Imunovir is now inosine acedoben dimepranol (previously inosine pranobex)
The shelf life of Imunovir 500mg tablets has also been increased from 3 years to 5 years.
Imunovir is indicated for mucocutaneous infections due to herpes simplex virus (type I and/or type II), genital warts as adjunctive therapy to podophyllin or carbon dioxide laser and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE).
